Your vote matters for school board

10/24/2007

Does it matter who's elected in Nov. 6 school board elections? Absolutely. The people elected will make decisions affecting the quality of life in our communities, the education of our children, and the spending of our tax dollars.

Running a school district is a tremendous responsibility. School board members are charged, by law, with providing a thorough and efficient education for the community's youth. School board members should conscientiously work for the best interests of all students and citizens.

That's why voters in every community need to take time to educate themselves about the candidates and vote for the ones who are right for the job.

If you want a say in who will make the decisions affecting your schools, your children, and your tax dollars, then learn about the issues and cast your vote for the responsible person or persons who you believe can do the best job.

Your community deserves the best. Vote on Nov 6.

While the Lucas County commissioners bask in the glory of a new state-of-the-art sports arena in downtown Toledo, we here in western Lucas County, who live near or have to travel by the Maumee wastewater treatment plant, have to smell the aromas of this less than state-of-the-art facility.

Just recently, residents were told that an expansion is planned to increase the capacity of the plant. Does this mean the fragrance will increase?

The plant's sewage empties into the Maumee River at one of the narrowest and shallowest parts of the river, at low-water stage. After a freshly fallen heavy rain, I took a walk along the river, where Jerome Road ends. There was a dark brown stain from the north bank, to the middle of the river.

Does this mean that the plant can't handle the inflow of excess water?

Also, I have observed seagulls in the settling tanks. Should these tanks be covered to prevent the possibility of disease transmission?

I think we should be putting health before wealth.

Will somebody please tell everybody, including all of Congress, exactly what $1 billion is and what could be bought for that billion so we all understand how much we're blowing on this stupid "undeclared war?"

And I'm a veteran.

There is continuing speculation about what will happen when we leave Iraq. Sometime, the Bush-Cheney war will end.

It is a crazy war where we don t know who we are defending or who we are defeating; where most of the people there want us to leave and most of the people here want us to leave.

We should know that, after all is said and done and we finally do leave, the country will be taken over by Iraqis who have been feuding for eons.
