I am sick of the war against women (“UT tells clinics it is dropping abortion pacts; Cancellation could affect local services for women,” April 5).
Mike Gonidakis, president of Ohio Right to Life, says that the University of Toledo’s cancellation of agreements with abortion clinics is compassionate and that “the greater good for this region has been served.” On what planet does denying medical care to anyone become a compassionate act?
Why do women have to fight constantly for their constitutional rights? We need the Equal Rights Amendment now more than ever.
I and others fought like the devil in the 1970s and 1980s for women’s rights, only to see them slowly eaten away by overly zealous religious people who insist on imposing their will on the rest of us.
It’s time for young women to pick up the mantle and renew the fight for their rights and the rights of their mothers, sisters, aunts, and grandmothers.

Column’s wrong; Paul is GOP’s hope
Columnist Frank Bruni could not be more wrong about Rand Paul (“Rand Paul is an unhelpful mascot for Republicans,” op-ed column, March 28). Senator Paul is one of the few hopes Americans have to return sanity to Washington.
President Obama is destroying the Constitution and has surrounded himself with a socialist staff that defies any resemblance to what our Founders intended for freedom of speech and religion.
The media in this country report what the government releases as fact. It would be refreshing to find positive columns in The Blade instead of destructive views of the Republican Party.

Companies guilty of tax evasion?
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the Citizens United case that a corporation is a person. Therefore, this “corporate person” has the privilege of contributing to electoral campaigns.
Every person who earns a certain amount of money must pay personal income tax. If this “corporate person” can afford to contribute thousands of dollars to a political campaign, then he (or it) should pay personal income tax instead of corporate income tax, which has a much lower tax rate.
It seems this corporate person is guilty of income tax evasion. So where is the Internal Revenue Service?
Toledo-built Jeep right for city streets
I recently purchased a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. It is the greatest vehicle I have owned. I thank the people of Toledo who built it.
I need its four-wheel drive and off-road capabilities to navigate, endure, and survive the canyon-sized potholes in the city’s south end streets.
