DENVER – For its NAIA Men’s Volleyball National Invitational debut, fifth-seeded Lourdes University gave the two-loss Grand View University plenty to think about today at Johnson and Wales University, pushing the second seed Vikings to four sets.

Errors wound up costing the Gray Wolves, who ultimately fell 25-19, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-19.

The Gray Wolves missed 22 serves on the match, with a high quantity through Sets 1 and 2. A cleaner approach in Set 3 helped Lourdes extend the match, with NAIA North Player of the Year Jo’Lon Clark winning set point on the Gray Wolves’ lone ace.

That momentum continued into Set 4, with the Gray Wolves tying the match at 13. But the service errors that plagued Lourdes to start the match, returned late, with misses pushing the Vikings to 17, 20 and 23 points.

Keanu Jacinto led Lourdes with eight kills on 25 attempts, followed by Clark, Frank Craig and Brad Miller with six kills apiece. Grand View’s Nikola Vukicevic had a match-high 13 kills.

Pool play at the national tournament continues for Lourdes Friday with match against four-seed Clarke University. The Gray Wolves must win to advance to the National Semifinals.
