  • Enjoy a beautiful dinner and join in the Farm to Plate Food Dialogue, sponsored by the Lucas County Farm Bureau, on Sept. 9 from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Toledo Zoo. The menu will showcase produce grown by Shared Legacy CSA and Bench Farms, and includes your choice of entree: a New York strip steak with herb butter, a Billionaire’s Pork Loin wrapped with bacon, or a vegetarian option still to be determined. The meal also offers a Chef’‍s Choice Salad, fresh corn polenta, ratatouille, rolls, and apple pie a la mode. There will be a cash bar featuring craft beer from Maumee Bay Brewery and wines from Majestic Oak Winery.

The cost for farm bureau members is $15, for nonmembers, $20, and for students, $10. For information or to register, call 419-849-2128 or email foxheather86@gmail.com. Friday is the deadline to register.

    Kielbasa Cook-off

Do you have a cherished family recipe for kielbasa? The Polish-American Community of Toledo is inviting contestants to its fourth annual Kielbasa Cook-off, Oct. 4 from 1 to 6 p.m. at St. Clement’s Community Center, 2990 Tremainsville Rd. Amateurs will compete to be named Toledo’s king or queen of kielbasa, and to win cash awards and/or trophies, too; no commercial vendors will be entered in the competition.

Guests sample the fare at a previous Kielbasa Cook-off held by the Polish American Community of Toledo. This year’s competition for the title of kielbasa king or queen will be Oct. 4.

Stan Machosky, president of the organization, says that, “People in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan are so proud of their ethnic heritage. Most families have those special homemade recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation ... This is a friendly competition. We want to taste that secret family recipe for kielbasa.” The deadline to enter is Sept. 5.

The public is welcome to attend the cook-off and to vote for their favorites. In addition to kielbasa, food offerings will include Polish delicacies such as coffee cake and sweet and sour cabbage. Admission will be $5 per person, or $3 for PACT members. Money raised by the Kielbasa Cook-off will help to fund the creation of a Polish-American Community Center in Toledo.
