Lucas County has 2nd West Nile case

10/10/2003

A 26-year-old woman is the second Lucas County resident to get West Nile Virus this year, the Toledo-Lucas County health department reported yesterday.

The woman, who had aseptic meningitis, is resting at home and is expected to make a full recovery.

So far this year, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have counted 71 West Nile Virus cases and three deaths from the disease in Ohio. Michigan only has one reported case so far this year. That case was fatal.

Health officials urge residents to continue protecting themselves from mosquitoes, the main carriers of the virus, until the weather gets cold.
