A crow found in Lucas County has tested positive for the West Nile virus, the first this year, according to the Toledo-Lucas County health department.

The crow was submitted for testing on July 23. More birds will be sent to the Ohio Department of Health until a second bird tests positive, Dr. David Grossman, health commissioner, said.

Eight pools of mosquitoes in the county also have tested positive for the virus. Dr. Grossman said the positive results were expected and that the prevalence of the disease is not increasing.

To date, 33 of Ohio's 88 counties have confirmed the presence of West Nile virus.
