Record number get kidneys at MCO

12/31/2004

A record number of people received kidney transplants at the Medical College of Ohio Hospitals this year.

MCO officials said yesterday 81 people received transplants, up from the previous high of 66 in 2003. The boost is due in large part to increasing willingness of living donors to give one of their kidneys.

Since starting its transplant program in 1972, MCO has performed 1,275 kidney transplants.
