BOWLING GREEN A 15-year-old Columbus boy who collapsed at a basketball camp at Bowling Green State University last summer died as a result of sudden death associated with sickle cell trait, the Wood County coroner has ruled.

Dr. Douglas W. Hess ruled Matthew Hackshaw s June 23 death accidental.

Family members said at the time that young Hackshaw, a point guard for the junior varsity team at Tree of Life High School in Columbus, had been diagnosed with a heart condition that can cause the heart to beat abnormally fast.

The teen had undergone two surgeries to correct the condition.
