7/31/2009

Mercy Health Partners has appointed a chief operating officer to oversee its seven hospitals throughout northwest Ohio, the Toledo-based hospital provider announced yesterday.

Andrea Price, currently executive vice president and chief operating officer for Sparrow Health System in Lansing, will assume responsibility for the operations and performance of Mercy's hospitals and outpatient sites in early fall.

Mercy has 7,400 employees at seven hospitals, including four in the Toledo metropolitan area.

Ms. Price will start as Steven Mickus, Mercy's president and chief executive, begins to take on an additional job with Catholic Healthcare Partners of Cincinnati, Mercy's parent company.

On top of his duties at Mercy and as chief executive of the Cincinnati hospital provider's northern Ohio division, Mr. Mickus will become chief operating officer of Catholic Healthcare Partners next year. Catholic Healthcare Partners has nearly 37,000 employees at 32 hospitals in Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania and 14 nursing homes.

Ms. Price will work with Mercy's hospital presidents and chief executives to meet the needs of doctors and their patients throughout the system.

She has more than 25 years of health-care experience, previously holding leadership positions at Hurley Medical Center in Flint and the Children's National Medical Center in Washington as well as with Sparrow.

Last year, Ms. Price was selected by Modern Healthcare Magazine as one of the "Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare."
