Dentist Frankel gives free service
75 area residents rewarded at Thanksgiving
11/26/2012Some Toledo residents are sporting big smiles this week, thanks to a big-hearted local dentist.
Dentist Jon Frankel and his staff provided an estimated $25,000 of free dental services Wednesday to the first 75 people who visited his Maumee office at 4359 Keystone Dr. Dr. Frankel, who has been in business for 20 years, said the event has become a Thanksgiving week tradition.
“I love this city and Toledo has been very good to us,” said Dr. Frankel, explaining his motive for providing the free services. “We had a lady standing in line at 2 a.m. [Tuesday] because she was in a lot of pain. We’re doing this because there are a lot of good people who have gone through some bad times.”
Free services provided on Wednesday included cavity fillings and teeth cleanings.
“I think it’s awesome,” said Toledo resident Cynthia Brock, 67, who had a painful cavity fixed.
“I’ve never heard of something like this before. Sometimes you hear of free services for children, but not adults.”
Other dental organizations have been doing their part to promote healthy dental habits this month.
The Toledo Dental Society donated 5,000 toothbrushes for distribution during Toledo’s 25th annual Holiday Parade on Nov. 17.
The Dental Center of Northwest Ohio and students from the Dental Hygiene Program at Owens Community College joined forces that day at the Imagination Station, where they led science-based, interactive activities designed to teach children better dental habits.
