Medical crews perform Shallow Water Egress Training in pool

3/17/2013

Thomas Kopp, an emergency medicine resident, is tipped upside down and submerged in the pool at St. Francis de Sales High School during Shallow Water Egress Training, or SWET. Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and the University of Toledo Life Flight medical crews held the training session Thursday to teach survival skills in the event that an aircraft needs to make an emergency landing on water. During the training, each crew member was secured in the SWET chair with a helicopter seat beat. The chair was then submerged — upside down — in the pool, and crew members practiced getting themselves out while upside down and under water.
