Several Toledo Hospital patients had to be transferred to Flower Hospital in Sylvania after contractors remodeling part of the Toledo facility broke a water pipe Thursday evening, a hospital spokesman said.

Leaking water from the pipe on the hospital’s fifth floor spilled to some of the lower floors, causing patients in the transitional care unit to be moved to Flower.

Others, including mothers and babies in the third-floor obstetrics unit, had to be shifted elsewhere in the building, said Melissa Auxter, a spokesman for ProMedica, which owns both hospitals.

Ms. Auxter said she did not know exactly how many patients were displaced or how soon the affected floors might reopen.
