Way Public Library is accepting registration for a six-week chronic disease self-management program that meets once a week for 2½ hours. The Healthy U program begins Thursday with class starting at 9:30 a.m. at the library. The program is free, but the registration deadline is today.

Healthy U, developed by researchers at Stanford University, is a small group workshop for people with long-term conditions like asthma, arthritis, heart disease, and diabetes. The program is designed to boost participants’ confidence and skills to manage their chronic conditions better and feel healthier. Two trained leaders who have chronic diseases themselves lead the workshops.

Classes are highly participatory and provide practical ways to deal with pain, fatigue, and depression. It also helps people find ways to be more active, eat healthier, learn better ways to talk about their health, set personal goals, and find ways to relax.

The program is presented by Mercy, Way Public Library, and the Area Office on Aging of Northwest Ohio, Inc. Register by calling 419-251-6372.
