June court date scheduled for speedway injury suit

11/2/2000

ADRIAN - A Taylor, Mich., woman will have her day in court June 12, 2001, in her lawsuit against the Michigan International Speedway for injuries she suffered when she fell off a moving tram two years ago at a race.

Charlotte Macika is asking for at least $25,000 compensation for her injuries, which included a broken elbow, sprained ankle, and torn ligaments in her arm.

Ms. Macika and her husband, Ken, attended a race June 14, 1998 and were riding standing up on a loaded tram that transports people between the parking lot and the Speedway. According to court documents, the tram ran over trash and debris in the roadway that caused it to roll unexpectedly.

Ms. Macika said she lost her balance, stepped on an empty beverage can in the tram car and fell off into the roadway. She admitted the tram was full, but that she and her husband got on anyway so they wouldn't have to wait for another tram.
