Judge won't quit Bedford case despite election gift

11/16/2000

MONROE - Monroe County Circuit Judge William LaVoy yesterday denied a request to remove himself from a case involving Bedford Township, even though he had contributed money to the re-election campaign of one of the township's trustees.

Judge LaVoy ruled that his $30 contribution in September to trustee Med Barr's campaign had no influence and was of no significance in his decision in October to dismiss a suit filed against the township by residents of the Mohawk Trails subdivision. Judge LaVoy said he gave $30 to another candidate in Bedford Township on the same date but would not identify the second individual.

Five residents of the subdivision had filed suit against the township to halt a mobile home park development proposed for 46.6 acres of land along Dean Road, east of Lewis Avenue.
