12/28/2000

ADRIAN -- A 51-year-old Tecumseh man who admitted to beating his neighbor's dog to death was sentenced yesterday on an unrelated drinking and driving charge.

Donald Moore was sentenced to six months in the Lenawee County Jail after pleading guilty to his third offense of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Lenawee Circuit Judge Timothy Pickard also sentenced Moore to five years of probation and ordered him to pay $2,200 in fines.

Moore has been in jail since Oct. 14 when he was picked up for his last drinking and driving charge. It was then that he also was charged in the beating death of his neighbor's American Chihuahua.

Mr. Moore, who said he hit the dog on the head with a baseball bat to stop it from barking, was sentenced Dec. 18 to 90 days in jail for the offense. He was charged with malicious destruction of an animal owned by another, a four-year-felony.
