Adrian expels freshman for alleged bomb threat

1/24/2001

ADRIAN - An Adrian High School freshman accused of making a false bomb threat was expelled from the school yesterday for 180 days.

The Adrian board of education decided to suspend Randy Burns after conducting a disciplinary hearing in closed session at the request of the student's parents. The expulsion was related to a bomb threat called in to the school on Nov. 6.

Another student, Shawn Joseph Leon, 17, will go to trial March 8. He is accused of calling in a bomb threat to Adrian High School on Nov. 15. Police arrested the teen after tracing the call to his home.

Mr. Leon faces charges in a second case that occurred Nov. 14, when students were sent home early after a suspicious device with a note attached was found in the boys' locker room. The teen remains free on a $500 posted bond.
