Adrian to seek state grant to buy, renovate houses

4/9/2001

ADRIAN - City commissioners hope to target seven rundown houses across the city over the next two years with a grant from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

Commissioners have agreed to apply for a $500,000 state grant to purchase vacant houses in blighted areas. The city would renovate and then sell the houses to a qualified low-income buyer.

Commissioners approved the purchase of a vacant house on the city's east side to start the pilot program. The property will be purchased for $46,000, renovated, and sold.
