Drive seeks $4 million for Adrian cancer center

ADRIAN - Bixby Medical Center has begun a campaign to raise $4 million to replace equipment for its Hickman Cancer Center.

In addition to new equipment, the money will be used for special staff training and improving patient care, said spokeswoman Katie Frye.

Plans call for the purchase of a medical linear accelerator with 120 computer-controlled leaves, or fingers, that are used to shape the beam of radiation that is directed toward a tumor.

Work has begun on the one-foot thick internal vault that will house the linear accelerator and shield people outside the treatment room.

Bixby has offered oncology services in this southeast Michigan city since 1985, with radiation treatment for the last 10 years.
