Adrian voters to weed out crowded commission race

5/22/2001

ADRIAN - Voters will have an Aug. 7 primary election to thin the field for the city commission.

Incumbents Chuck Chase and Rhea Mills are being challenged by Jim Awad, Jeffrey DiCenzo, Martha Farnum, Gary McDowell, Ivan Myers, Tom Templeman, and former commissioner Tom Faulhaber.

Jeffrey Sweet took out petitions to run but did not return them and Steven Kindinger's petitions were disqualified because too many of the signatures were from people who don't live in the city.

Mayor Sam Rye, however, will be unopposed for a two-year term. Leigh Jameson-Heise took out petitions to oppose Mr. Rye, but did not return them.

The Aug. 7 primary will pare the field to the top four vote-getters, who then will square off for the two four-year terms in November.
