ONSTED, Mich. -- Two teenagers were arrested early yesterday after they led police on a chase around northwest Lenawee County.

Michigan State Police troopers spotted a vehicle at Devils Lake Highway, west of Onsted, crossing the center line at 3:40 a.m.

The officers were led on a chase that lasted several miles and reached speeds of more than 100 mph.

The driver, Kevin Cawthorn, 17, of Manitou Beach, was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding, drinking and driving, reckless driving, and underage drinking.

His 16-year-old male passenger was arrested and charged with resisting and obstructing police and having open intoxicants in a car.

Police said they were able to stop the teens on U.S. 223 by putting “stop sticks” or wooden planks with spikes onto the roadway. The car's tires separated a few miles later.
