ADRIAN — The Island Park community playground, which was built with volunteer support this spring, will be dedicated for public use Sunday.

Melinda Kelly of the city's parks and recreation department said the event will recognize the volunteers and sponsors who built and paid for the playground.

In June, residents and city employees erected the equipment, which includes 8-foot-high slides, monkey bars, climbing walls, and three kinds of swings.

The project, estimated to cost $250,000, is aimed at restoring the north-side park. Except for three baseball diamonds, the park had only a few old pieces of play equipment and largely was unused in recent years.
