Ex-Michigan lawmaker to fill Hillsdale judge slot

7/5/2002

HILLSDALE — Former State Rep. Mike Nye has been chosen to fill the probate court judge job that was vacated by Judge Albert Neukom on June 28.

The governor's office announced the decision earlier this week. Hillsdale County Prosecutor Neal Brady and attorney Roy Brandes also were under consideration for the position.

Mr. Nye will serve as probate judge until the 2004 election, when the seat will be placed on the ballot. A start date has not yet been determined.

Judge Neukom said he is retiring because he is uncomfortable with some new policies and guidelines in recent Michigan appellate court decisions.
