2nd health alert issued on River Raisin water

7/10/2002

ADRIAN - The Lenawee County Health Department has issued a second health advisory warning residents to avoid contact with the River Raisin - this time involving the river's south branch.

The advisory warns against waters beginning at Cadmus Road and continuing to the spot at which the south branch enters the River Raisin at Laberdee Road, Environmental Health Supervisor Paul Nelson announced yesterday.

The advisory is in addition to an alert against contact with the river between Adrian and Deerfield.

The advisory was prompted by a power outage at the Madison Township pump station on Cadmus Road, which caused a leak of 5,000 to 10,000 gallons of raw sewage. About 3,000 to 5,000 gallons went into the river.
