Judge gives Adrian man 90 days for child threats

11/23/2002

ADRIAN - A judge yesterday ordered an Adrian man to spend 90 days in the Lenawee County jail for threatening several children who were playing football on a city street in June.

The sentence for Joseph Gary King, 22, was suspended until Jan. 15. But Mr. King was placed on two years' probation by Lenawee County Circuit Judge Harvey Koselka. He pleaded guilty last month to two counts of simple assault, a misdemeanor.

He was accused of pointing a gun at several children who were playing in a street outside his Adrian home. He claimed he did not have a gun. Instead, he said he pointed a cell phone at the boys, warning them to stay out of the street.

Mr. King also was arraigned in Lenawee County District Court last week on unrelated charges. He is facing a Nov. 25 preliminary examination on charges of possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle and hunting without a license. He was released on $700 bond for the alleged July 18 Madison Township offense.
