LANSING — The state's Family Independence Agency has been awarded $10,000 and is on the short list for consideration of the $100,000 prize in recognition for its child services initiative.

The grant from the American Government Award, a 16-year-old program sponsored by Harvard University and the Ford Foundation, recognizes Michigan's case management system, known as structured decision making.

The case management system is used by child services workers to collect and act on information in a consistent manner.
