Adrian parents get info on school realignment

ADRIAN — Prairie Elementary parents waiting to hear where they will be sending their children to school this fall found out recently that it depends on where they live.

Families living on or north of Beecher Road will attend Lincoln Elementary. Those living south of Beecher Road will attend Garfield Elementary. The 25 pupils who have attended Prairie Elementary through the schools-of-choice program can chose what school the want their children to attend — depending on openings.

Adrian Public Schools approved a plan in March to close Prairie — one of its nine elementary schools — as a way to cut costs. At the time it was unknown if the 160 pupils at the school would be split up by grade level or geographically.

Superintendent Lenore Janman said the split will distribute pupils evenly among the Beecher and Lincoln.
