LANSING - Michigan Department of Natural Resources officials are again welcoming anglers to check out the state's fishing during the annual summer Free Fishing Weekend starting tomorrow.

Fishing clinics and special events are planned throughout the state to celebrate these two days when residents and nonresidents can fish Michigan's lakes and rivers without purchasing a fishing license.

The department reminds anglers that all other fishing regulations still apply.

State officials describe the weekend as a chance for experienced anglers to introduce fishing to a friend or family members or for those interested in the sport to throw out a line.

Michigan has more than 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, 11,037 inland lakes, and 36,350 miles of rivers and streams.
