ADRIAN — Retired Michigan State Police Trooper Gail Dotson will take over as undersheriff of Lenawee County on Sept. 8, Sheriff Larry Richardson announced recently.

During her 25-year career, Ms. Dotson worked road patrol for 10 years at both the Northville and Clinton posts. She was an undercover narcotic officer for two years in Jackson. She also was a member of the Office of Monroe Narcotics Investigations unit in Lenawee County.

Before retirement from the state police she was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant and attended the FBI National Academy. Her daughter, Paula West, is a patrol officer for the Adrian police department.

The former undersheriff, Larry Van Alstine, was fired in late March for not appropriately handling a contract dispute.
