Michigan receives grant for disaster preparation

Michigan will receive more than $4.8 million from the federal Department of Homeland Security to help state officials prepare for disasters and potential terrorist acts.

The Emergency Management Performance Grant can be used to upgrade emergency operations plans, conduct training exercises, and develop distribution plans for logistical materials and training personnel. The grant program calls for an equal match by the state.

The funding was announced Thursday by U.S. Sens. Carl Levin (D., Mich.) and Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.). “These grants will prove very helpful to Michigan's first responders,” Mr. Levin said.
