Regional panel examines Michigan development

MONROE A state agency has begun a study of the impact of a proposed 5,000-acre housing and retail development in Milan Township.

Officials at the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments said they hope to complete their study by November.

Novi, Mich.-based Crosswinds Communities and partner, Tomyn

Enterprises of West Bloomfield, Mich., want to build the development to offer a lower-price housing alternative to Ann Arbor, 15 miles north of township. The development, modeled after all-inclusive developments in Arizona and California, would take up nearly 20 percent of the township s property.

Township and Monroe County officials asked SEMCOG to determine whether the township can handle the project.
