Adrian, former chief agree on severance deal

3/28/2005

ADRIAN After a delay of several months, former police Chief Mike Martin has agreed to a city-proposed severance package.

Under the agreement terms, Mr. Martin will be compensated for three months of work, including benefits. He also was granted credit for accumulated vacation time and sick leave, bringing his total severance package to about six months paid, including benefits.

Mr. Martin resigned Dec. 17. He had been under fire for six months. The upheaval began when, during an office reorganization under Mr. Martin s direction, about 25 pieces of evidence that might have been needed were thrown out. Among them was evidence related to a widely publicized sexual-assault case. Soon after, the department s officers filed a no-confidence petition against the chief.

The city is continuing its search for a chief.
