Penn State's ineffective offense figures to be without one of its key components Saturday when the Nittany Lions host Michigan.

PSU coach Joe Paterno said Tuesday true freshman quarterback Rob Bolden is doubtful to play after suffering a head injury in Saturday's win at Minnesota. Paterno said Bolden was experiencing memory loss Sunday and will undergo further testing today.

“If I had to guess, he won't be able to make it,” Paterno said. “I don't want to take any chances.”

Bolden's likely replacement is former walk-on Matt McGloin, although sophomore Kevin Newsome, who once verbally committed to UM, could get the nod. McGloin, a sophomore, threw two touchdowns and an interception in the team's 33-21 win over the Gophers. He had not attempted a pass prior to the game and was 6-of-13 for 76 yards.

Under Bolden, the Nittany Lion offense has struggled and ranks near the bottom in several Big Ten categories, including 10th in scoring at 20.3 points per game.

Running back Evan Royster needs 30 rushing yards to tie Curt Warner (1979-82) for most in program history. Royster currently sits at 3,368 yards.
