Michigan's Heininger questionable for Sugar Bowl

Foot injury may prevent University of Michigan defensive tackle Will Heininger from playing in next week's Sugar Bowl.

NEW ORLEANS --- Michigan defensive tackle Will Heininger may not participate in his final college game.

Wolverines coach Brady Hoke said on Wednesday that Heininger, a starter, is questionable with a foot injury for Tuesday's Sugar Bowl against Virginia Tech. Also, reserve defensive lineman Nathan Brink is out with an injury, Hoke added.

Michigan's team charter arrived here Wednesday afternoon.

Heininger did not travel with the team but was seen at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on crutches, wearing a boot on his right foot.

The Ann Arbor native started in all 12 regular season games and matched a career high with four tackles against Ohio State. At Michigan's annual Bust, Heininger received the Dr. Arthur D. Robinson Scholarship Award as the team's leading senior scholar.

Expected to fill Heininger's role in the event he cannot play are Quinton Washington and Will Campbell.

Brink, a redshirt sophomore, played in 11 games this year and started against Purdue.
