UM's Toussaint suspended following his arrest

ANN ARBOR - The University of Michigan football program announced today that it has suspended tailback Fitzgerald Toussaint indefinitely, following his arrest Saturday in Ann Arbor.

According to Saline's Patch site, the Saline Police Department and the Ann Arbor Police Department stopped Toussaint for a traffic violation, and a Breathlyzer test showed Toussaint with a blood-alcohol content above the Michigan legal limit of .08. Toussaint was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired. A Saline Police Department representative said a hearing date has not been set for Toussaint, and that the case will be forwarded to the Washtenaw County prosecutor's office.

Toussaint, a redshirt junior, ran for 1,041 yards and nine touchdowns in 12 games in 2011. Last week, he was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list, an award given annually to college football's top running back.

"There are expectations that come with being a football student-athlete at the University of Michigan and those responsibilities were not met in this instance," Michigan coach Brady Hoke said in a statement. "We will use this as an opportunity to educate Fitz and make sure he understands the high standards that we have established within our program."
