University of Oklahoma announces hiring of Michigan defensive line coach Montgomery

The University of Oklahoma announced tonight that it has hired former Michigan defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery.

"There were very few situations that could have convinced me to leave Ann Arbor, but the opportunity to join Coach Stoops and a storied program like the University of Oklahoma was one of them," Montgomery told SoonerSports.com.

Montgomery is the first departure from Brady Hoke's staff at Michigan. Montgomery coached at Michigan for the past two seasons and was one of the Wolverines' primary recruiters. Montgomery replaces Jackie Shipp on Bob Stoops' staff at Oklahoma. The hire was originally reported over the weekend by Scout.com and the Oklahoman.

"You always hate to lose members of your staff, but you know going in that at a program like Michigan, other schools and NFL teams are going to come after them," Hoke said in a statement. "However, I am confident that we will name a new coach who fits in very well with our staff soon."
