Ex-Wolverine Manning hired as UM assistant

ANN ARBOR — The University of Michigan announced Monday that former Wolverines linebacker Roy Manning has joined its football staff as outside linebackers coach.

Manning was a graduate assistant at UM in 2011 and worked with the offensive line. He coached the running backs at Cincinnati in 2012 and in January, accepted a job as a running backs coach at Northern Illinois.

Manning was a Michigan linebacker from 2001-04 and played in the NFL from 2005-07, with five different teams. At Michigan, Manning was the 2004 Roger Zatkoff Award winner in 2004 with 39 tackles, six tackles for loss, and one sack.

Manning replaces Jerry Montgomery, who last month accepted a job as a defensive line coach at Oklahoma.
