ANN ARBOR -- The Michigan athletic department announced today that redshirt sophomore Russell Bellomy will be out indefinitely after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament last week.

Bellomy, a quarterback, suffered the injury during practice on Friday. He's the second Michigan football player this spring to sustain this kind of injury -- Jake Ryan is also out indefinitely after tearing his ACL on March 19 during spring practices. Ryan underwent surgery Thursday to repair the ACL tear.

Bellomy was expected to back up Devin Gardner at quarterback this fall. In five games in 2012, Bellomy completed four of 21 passes for 46 yards and was intercepted four times.
