ANN ARBOR — The Michigan football program began today with one of the nation's top 2014 recruiting classes.

Then it landed its best prospect yet.

Five-star New Jersey cornerback Jabrill Peppers has committed to the Wolverines, his high school announced on Twitter.

Ranked by Rivals.com and ESPN as the nation's No. 2 overall recruit, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Paramus Catholic star picked UM over LSU, Penn State, and Stanford among others.

He stands as the Wolverines' highest-rated recruit of the Rivals era, surpassing quarterback Ryan Mallett, who was the country's fourth-rated recruit in 2007.

Peppers is the 11th member of a class that was previously rated No. 1 nationally by ESPN, No. 5 by Rivals, and No. 7 by Scout.com.
