ANN ARBOR — Michigan has officially announced the hiring of Doug Nussmeier as its new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Nussmeier's hire comes a day after Michigan announced it had dismissed Al Borges as its offensive coordinator after three seasons. Nussmeier served as Alabama's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the last two seasons.

"I am extremely excited to join the University of Michigan and work with Brady Hoke, the staff and players," Nussmeier said in a statement today. "I'm proud of what we accomplished in two seasons at Alabama, and I owe a great deal to Coach Saban for that opportunity. Michigan is a program I've always had deep respect for, and I'm looking forward to getting started in Ann Arbor and being a part of the great tradition there."

Nussmeier, a former quarterback at Idaho, has helped develop several notable quarterbacks, including Alabama's AJ McCarron, as well as Washington's Jake Locker (Tennessee Titans) and Keith Price, Michigan State's Drew Stanton and Jeff Smoker and former St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger.

Michigan will formally introduce Nussmeier on Friday.
