ANN ARBOR -- The Michigan football team released its first depth chart today and its starters for Saturday's season opener will include two true freshmen.

Mason Cole, a freshman left tackle, and Jabrill Peppers, a freshman nickelback and punt returner are listed as starters for the Wolverines, who open the season at noon Saturday against Appalachian State at Michigan Stadium.

Cole is a 6-5, 290-pound freshman from Florida while Peppers is a 6-1, 202-pound freshman from New Jersey who was one of the nation's top high school senior football players.

Jack Miller, a UM redshirt junior and a graduate of St. John's Jesuit, will start at center.

UM coach Brady Hoke also announced today that the Wolverines will not designate captains. Instead, selected fourth- and fifth-year players will represent UM at the coin toss prior to the start of each game.

This is the first year since 1882 that Michigan has not had captains. That season, Michigan did not field a team.
