Taking advantage of what it hopes will be a ratings bonanza in the 2002 Winter Olympics, WNWO-TV, Channel 24, will launch a 5 p.m. newscast on Feb. 11 -- the first day of weekday afternoon broadcasts from Salt Lake City.
“NBC will have live Olympic coverage from 4 to 5 p.m.,” WNWO news director Lou Hebert said. “So, as a result, we figured that if we're ever going to do a 5 o'clock [newscast], this is the time to do it.”
WTOL-TV, Channel 11, and WTVG-TV, Channel 13, already have 5 p.m. newscasts. WNWO has newscasts at 5:30 and 6 p.m.; currently, it airs Judge Judy at 5.
Hebert said Jon Clark and Nora Murray will anchor at 5. They also anchor at 5:30, 6, and 11 p.m.
