News of entertainment: Film about jazz greats slated at museum

  • A Great Day in Harlem, Jean Bach's award-winning documentary about a 1958 photograph featuring dozens of jazz's greatest musicians, may be seen at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Toledo Museum of Art's Little Theatre. The film features rare home movie footage, archival performances, and interviews with Sonny Rollins, Horace Silver, Dizzy Gillespie, and Art Blakey.

  • The World War II drama Stalag 17, a 1953 film starring William Holden, has been scheduled at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Super Cinemas, 1301 East Mall Dr., Holland, as the latest entry in National Amusements' Silver Screen Classics program. The price of $1 will buy viewers a ticket, popcorn, and a soft drink. The Silver Screen Classics program is geared toward senior citizens, but movie fans of all ages are welcome to attend.

  • Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani will be the guest speaker for the Junior League of Toledo about 8:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. Tickets for the black tie event are $175 from 419-534-3138.

    Also in the theater:

    Kenny Rogers will perform a special Valentine's Concert at 8 p.m. Feb. 12. Tickets are $39.50 and $49.50.

    Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $32.50 to $38.50.
