Censorship symposium at UT

The 2004 Censorship Symposium takes place at the University of Toledo this weekend, with showings of films that deal with censorship issues and one film that was banned when it was released in Czechoslovakia.

Events, all of which take place in the Center for Performing Arts, include:

●4 p.m. today: Bowling For Columbine.

●7:30 tonight: Talk by Detroit filmmaker Joan Mandell on the topic "Jessica, Rachel and Me: Thirty Years of Censorship in the Middle East."

●2 to 4 p.m. tomorrow: Addresses by UT law professor Rob Salem about censorship of gay-themed materials, and international artist Jonas Jurasas on censorship in the former Soviet Union.

●4 p.m. tomorrow: The anti-Stalinist, anti-socialist Daisies.

●2 p.m. Sunday: Mark Kitchell's Berkeley in the '60s, a documentary about the free speech movement and student activism.

The symposium concludes with an open discussion at 4 p.m. There is a $3 suggested donation to see films. For more information, call 419-530-2202.
