Ms. Lawrence, represented classy, young Hollywood, followed by 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld, in custom Marchesa. The blush Cinderella dress had sparkle on soft mesh at the neckline, a pretty effect also seen on Mandy Moore's glittery Monique Lhuillier gown.
More trendsetters:
Color: Red was repeated by Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang, host Anne Hathaway, who walked the carpet in Valentino, and Penelope Cruz, who showed off her post-baby body. Jennifer Hudson was high glam in a low-cut tangerine gown by Versace.
Black and white: Reese Witherspoon did it best, rocking an elegant black column gown with a white strip.
Glitter and metallics: Gwyneth Paltrow shimmered in low-cut Calvin Klein, while Melissa Leo wore a busy Marc Bouwer design.
Sleeves make a comeback: Annette Bening and Michelle Williams wore short-sleeved gowns; Amy Adams' form-fitter had cap sleeves topped with more than $1 million in diamonds and emeralds.
