SYDNEY — Peter Jackson has wrapped up filming The Hobbit trilogy and shared pictures of his last day on the set with his Facebook fans.

The second film, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, will be released in December, and the finale, The Hobbit: There And Back Again, appears in 2014.

The Hobbit, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel, is the prequel to Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, opened in 2012 and surpassed $1 billion in box-office receipts worldwide.
