Mud Hens washed out

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - After dropping a 9-3 count to Pawtucket Sunday, Toledo hoped to resume its winning ways yesterday. But the Mud Hens' scheduled matinee was washed out, to be made up at 5:35 tonight as part of a doubleheader.

The teams sat through a 1-hour, 45-minute delay without taking the field before the game was called because of excess water in the outfield.

LHP Andy Van Hekken (6-2, 4.61) and RHP Nate Cornejo (0-0, 0.00) will face Pawtucket RHP Jamie Brown (3-2, 3.77) and RHP Frank Castillo (6-5, 4.40).

Mud Hens left-hander Adrian Burnside was named International League pitcher of the week, the league office announced yesterday.

Burnside won both of his starts last week, allowing just seven hits and one run in 13 innings of work while walking five and striking out nine. He gave up one Rochester run on five hits spread over six innings Monday, then limited Columbus to two hits in seven shutout innings Saturday.

The Australian native, 27, is 4-4 with a 3.94 ERA.
