Tigers' Inge will be in Hens' lineup tonight
7/7/2008The Mud Hens' roster continues to be in turmoil thanks to demotions, injuries, and rehab assignments.
The latest move was announced by Detroit before last night's Hens games started. Brandon Inge, who is recovering from a pulled left oblique muscle, will begin a rehab assignment with the Mud Hens today.
Toledo manager Larry Parrish
announced that Inge will serve as the Hens' DH tonight against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, then will catch five innings tomorrow and Wednesday. He then will DH on Thursday when Toledo begins a series in Indianapolis, and his situation will be reevaluated at that point.
The Mud Hens have another player on the roster rehabbing from injury. Shortstop Ramon Santiago went 0-for-3 with a hit batsman and sacrifice in last night's loss to the Yankees, his seventh game with Toledo.
Parrish said he expects Santiago to play with the Hens today, then rejoin the Tigers tomorrow when the team returns home for a series with Cleveland.
Detroit manager Jim Leyland said chances are good the Tigers will send infielder Michael Hollimon back to the Mud Hens. Hollimon batted .250 with 12 homers, 21 RBIs, and 36 runs scored in 44 games with the Hens before his promotion to Detroit.
The Hens were without Jeff Larish last night. Larish was in Toledo's original lineup, batting fourth and playing first base. But Parrish said Larish was ill before the game, and he removed him from the starting lineup.
Derek Wathan took over at first for Larish and moved into the eighth spot in the lineup, with the other hitters moving up one spot.
And Fernando Seguignol left the game after bruising his heel running out a ground ball in the ninth. Max Leon pinch-hit for Seguignol and reached base when Yankees catcher Chris Stewart his Leon's bat with his glove for catcher's interference.
Parrish said both Larish and Seguignol are day-to-day.
TRIPLE TREAT: Seguignol's second triple this century wasn't the only triple record set last night.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Cody Ransom tripled in both the sixth and eighth innings, making him the first visiting player to triple twice in one game at Fifth Third Field since Keith Luuloa of Indianapolis turned the trick on June 4, 2003.
THREE-DOT DATA: The Mud Hens are 3-2 in extra innings this season, while Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is 5-2. With Detroit's minor-league field coordinator Mike Rojas and roving outfield instructor Gene Roof at last night's game, there were three different Mud Hens managers at the game. Roof led the Hens from 1997-99, while Rojas stepped in for Larry Parrish on an interim basis last year. Last night's crowd of 9,515 was the Mud Hens' 18th sellout this season and the 193rd in the seven-year history of Fifth Third Field.
