The Toledo Mud Hens will play their first home game in 2009 at 5:30 p.m. April 16 against the Columbus Clippers now the Triple-A affiliate for the Cleveland Indians.

The Hens will then return the favor by helping Columbus open its brand new stadium Huntington Park on April 18.

Toledo, which finished 75-69 this season and failed to win the International League West Division for the first time since 2004, opens next year on the road April 9 at Indianapolis.

After a season-opening seven-game road trip, the Hens come home to Fifth Third Field to host Columbus. Toledo has sold out each of its first seven home openers downtown, and this season set a record with 12,750 fans at the first game.

The Clippers were last affiliated with the Washington Nationals, while Cleveland had been linked with the Buffalo Bisons since 1995. The Indians top farm club will play against Detroit s Triple-A team 11 times in Toledo next year.

The upcoming season at Fifth Third Field will feature 30 fireworks shows, three School Day Celebration games, and home games over the Memorial Day and July 4 weekends.
