Big fourth carries Mud Hens past Bats

8/1/2009

LOUISVILLE - The Toledo Mud Hens scored six runs in the fourth inning to prevail over the Louisville Bats 8-6 for their second consecutive victory.

With the score tied at one run a piece through two innings, the division-leading Bats heated up in the bottom of the third, scoring twice, once after Drew Stubbs stole third base.

But the Hens answered with a flurry of their own, scoring six runs in the top of the fourth when Jeff Frazier's homer into left field brought home Mike Hessman and Jeff Larish, who singled on the previous play. Later in the inning, Brent Dlugach's RBI double brought home Wilkin Ramirez before Dane Sardinha's fly ball was fielded by Bats center fielder Drew Stubbs, ending the onslaught.

Louisville battled back with scoring runs in the fifth and sixth, but the Hens matched them with one run of their own in the top of fifth to seal the win.

Toledo's Nate Bump threw five innings in earning the win.
